Vernon Lee McClain, 86, of Garfield, AR, lovingly known as “Mac” to friends and family, was born September 14, 1932 to Orville McClain and Elizabeth Mesplay McClain of St. Louis, Missouri. He passed away Tuesday, July 23, 2019 at Mercy Hospital in Rogers, AR.
Mac met Dorothy and they married shortly after. He then joined the U.S. Army and served in the Korean War. After the U.S. Army, Mac attended the Police Academy where he graduated and became Chief of Police in Lowell, Arkansas for many years.
Later in life, Mac retired, and enjoyed woodworking, building birdhouses and garden furniture, and spending time in his shop. He was a skilled woodworker taking his wares to flea markets.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Dorothy McClain of 51 years; his only sibling, Gerald McClain; and his most favorite dog, C.
Mac is survived by his son of the home, Gerald “Bub” McClain, his son, Rick McClain and wife, Nan and their children, his daughter, Marilyn Donal and her daughter, his daughter, Sherry Smedley and her son, his daughter, Barbara Pike and her daughter, and Tim McClain and wife, Trecia and their children; 10 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; and his little dog, Romeo of the home.
Funeral Services will be held at 2:00pm, Monday, July 29, 2019 at Stockdale-Moody Funeral Services with Dave Harmon officiating.
Visitation will be held from 1:00PM to service time.
A family burial will be at a later date at Jane Cemetery in Jane, MO, next to his loving wife, Dorothy.
