Donald Ray "Don" Wipf

Don R. Wipf, 74, of Rogers, Ark., died Dec. 30, following a long illness.  He was born July 20, 1943, to Warren and Mary (Kleinsasser) Wipf of Doland, S.D.

Don attended Doland High School and was a graduate of Tabor College in Hillsboro, Kan. He met Phyllis Deutschendorf of Corn, Okla., while at Tabor, and they married in 1969. 

Don was passionate about journalism. He worked in advertising, sports coverage, as editor and part-owner of the Hillsboro Star-Journal until 1979. He was general manager of the Anamosa Journal-Eureka in Iowa until 1982. He worked in advertising at the Dodge City Daily Globe, Metro 5 in Wichita, and the Hillsboro Free Press until he retired in 2007.

He is survived by his wife, Phyllis; his son, Chuck Wipf and wife, Shannon of Rogers, Ark.; his daughter, Rhea Wolf of Portland, Ore.; son-in-law, Gradey Proctor of Portland, Ore.; his four granddaughters, Scarlet and Madrone Wolf-Proctor and Rosalyn and Rebecca Wipf; his brother, Terry Wipf and wife, Marilynn of Sterling Heights, Mich.; his mother-in-law, Vera Flaming; numerous nieces and nephews and other family members.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Family and friends are invited to attend an informal memorial service at 2 p.m., Jan. 6, 2017 at Stockdale-Moody Funeral Services in Rogers, Ark.

In lieu of flowers, gifts of remembrance may be given to Habitat for Humanity of Benton County or the Society of Professional Journalists.
