David Maurice Lanier, 65, of Bentonville, AR died Friday, April 7, 2017, surrounded by his family and friends. He was born August 15, 1951, in Newport, Arkansas.
David is preceded in death by his parents, The Rev. Maurice Lanier and Ruth Marie Kornmeyer Lanier.
David is survived by his sister, Ruth Ann Lanier of New York City and his brother, Donald Lanier of Bentonville; one aunt, Edith Lanier of Lansing, MI and a number of loving cousins across the United States.
David was a graduate of Bentonville High School and attended Hendrix College before graduating from the University of Arkansas. For over twenty years, he was a well-known writer and sports editor for the Benton County Daily Record and the Springdale News. In the late 1970’s, he had a memorable exchange with Reggie Jackson during a locker room news conference. More recently, he received accolades for writing a series of articles chronicling the homeless of NW Arkansas.
A memorial service will be held at 3:00pm, Wednesday, April 12, 2017 at First United Methodist Church in Bentonville. There will be a reception at 1:00pm, open to all, before the service.
