Johnny Phillip Townzen, 76, of Bentonville, passed away Saturday, February 13,
2016 at Circle of Life Hospice in Bentonville. He was surrounded by the family
that he loved so dearly and loved him so very much. He was finally able to go
home after a lengthy, difficult battle with Alzheimer’s disease. Johnny was born
August 21, 1939 in Bentonville, Arkansas to Clarence Marion and Reta Lorraine
Townzen. He was the oldest of seven children.
Johnny’s joy in life was his family and helping others. He and Myrna were high
school sweethearts and would have been married 50 years if she had not preceded
him in death six months before their 50th wedding anniversary in 2009. Together
they had one son, John Bradley Townzen.
Johnny served in the Army National Guard and in the U.S. Army. He was a
successful businessman in Bentonville for many years with Triangle Builders
Supply until its sale. He started and retired from Townzen Tile. He was active in
civic clubs and charity work during those years. His business associates were like
family to him and those friendships continued throughout his life. Johnny
graduated from Bentonville High School in 1958 and maintained close friendships
over the years with many of his classmates. He treasured those friendships.
Johnny was a member of First Baptist Church in Bentonville, Arkansas for over
fifty years.
Johnny was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Myrna Sue Davidson
Townzen; his father, Clarence Marion Townzen and his sister, Reta Lorraine
Carnes.
He is survived by his son, Brad Townzen; his mother, Reta Townzen and his
siblings, Kathy Mayhall (Carl), Connie Ford (David), Zonna Coffee, Doris Bolain
(Ed) and Randy Townzen (Julie). Johnny loved all of his nieces and nephews,
Byron Mayhall, Jason Mayhall, Terri Fluitt, Kim Gallagher, Steve Bolain,
Stephanie Dean, Marion Thompson, Grant Coffee, Kellie Farrell and Ashley
Tate. He loved kids and most often was the biggest kid of all. He provided many
great memories for his nieces and nephews and for all of us.
The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to all the caregivers that expressed
their love and kindness over the past three difficult years. They all expressed their
love for him in so many ways. Special thanks to Good Shepherd, Clarity Point in
Fayetteville and Mt. Carmel in Rogers. Words cannot express our gratitude to
Circle of Life Hospice in Bentonville for their tender care in Johnny’s last days
and for the kindness shown to our family.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00PM, Wednesday, February 17, 2016 at First
Baptist Church in Bentonville with Pastor Phillip Smith officiating. Visitation will
be from 1:00PM, until service time. Burial will be in Bentonville Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Circle of Life Hospice, 1201 NE
Legacy Pkwy, Bentonville, AR 72712.
