Vernon Leroy Vandiver, 68, of Bentonville, AR, died Monday, June 27, 2011 at Regency
Hospital in Springdale, after a long illness. He was born February 5, 1943 in Bentonville,
AR to James Dewey and Emily Ann Vandiver.
His family moved to Pomona, CA in 1946 when he was 3 years old. He graduated from
Chaffey High School in 1961. The same year his family moved back to Bentonville. He
worked at Bear Brand Hosiery in Bentonville and was a builder before opening Vandiver
Auto Sales in 1978, which he still owned and operated.
He married Cindy Criner in February 1965 and they had 4 children before divorcing. He is
survived by two daughters; Christy Vandiver of
Bentonville and Vicki Taylor and husband, Heath, of Bentonville; two sons, Rick Vandiver
and wife, Tina, of Pineville, Mo and Adam Vandiver and wife, Toia of Bella Vista, AR.
He is preceded in death by his parents, along with three brothers, James Clyde Vandiver,
William “Bill” Vandiver and Charles Vandiver; one sister, Emily Ann Lee.
Along with his children, Vernon leaves behind his wife of 28 years, Janis Deay Vandiver,
whom he married on July 19, 1984; eight grandchildren, Amy Koch and husband, Matt of
Bella Vista, AR, Scott Mize and wife, Cindy of Centerton, AR, Ashley Winkley and
husband, Beau of Little Rock, AR, Trevor Taylor and wife, Susan of Bella Vista, AR,
Heather Taylor of Bentonville, AR, Eli, Haley and Madison Vandiver all of Bella Vista,
AR; three step-grandsons, Mark Xayprasith of Brooklyn, NY, Jamie Weller of Pineville,
Mo and Gary Weller of Rogers, AR; five great-grandsons, Collin and William Koch of
Bella Vista, Owen Harris and Hudson Winkley of Little Rock and Ethan Mize of
Bentonville; one brother, James Dewey Vandiver, Jr. of Broken Arrow, OK; three sisters,
Katherine Tucker of Gravette, Marie Crawford and husband, Jim of Decatur and Frances
Sims of Bentonville; one sister-in-law, Sheryl Rainwater and husband, Bill of Jay, OK;
many nieces and nephews and a multitude of friends that will miss him dearly.
Funeral services will be at 2:00PM, Thursday, June 30, 2011 at the Bentonville Church of
Christ. Burial will be in Elm Springs Cemetery.
A visitation will be held from 12noon until service time at the church.
The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Vernon’s name to the
