Elmer W. “Spike” Shannon, 90, of Rogers, Arkansas, passed away peacefully at his home,
on August 18, 2011. He was born January 19, 1921 in Mt. Washington, Missouri to Elmer C.
Shannon and Christina Mandl Shannon.
He married the love of his life, Florene Becker, on August 28, 1943, in Kansas City, Missouri.
Perhaps “Spike” is best known for his greatest accomplishment in making everyone he met
feel that they were special.
“Spike’s” enormous heart is what he will be remembered for, and we find peace knowing
how well he was loved.
He was V.P. of marketing and sales for Hudson Foods from 1972 through 1984, and then was
on the board of directors. Prior to joining Hudson Foods, he was the National Sales Manager
Poultry Products Division of Ralston Purina Corp. in St. Louis, MO.
He was a founding member of Champions County Club, which, by his contest submission,
was later renamed Pinnacle Country Club. He loved golf and had eight “holes in one.”
He was preceded in death by his son Kenneth Shannon in 1967; one grandchild, Kelsey
Shannon in 2008; his parents; two sisters; and four brothers-in-law.
“Spike” is survived by his wife, Florene; one son, Thomas Shannon and wife Dottie of
Denver, CO; daughter, Barbara Mickey and husband Kenneth of Overland Park, KS; one
brother-in-law, Jack Becker and wife Nelta, of Conway, MO; one sister-in-law, Marilyn
“Wiggie” Becker of Overland Park, KS; four grandchildren, Brian Mickey, Darin Mickey,
Megan Shannon, Angela Horne; and five great-grandchildren, Lauren, Emily and Max Mickey,
Mia and Sam Horne.
A visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00PM, with the Rosary at 7:00PM, Sunday, August 21,
2011 at Stockdale Funeral Chapel, 2898 West Walnut, in Rogers.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00AM, Monday, August 22, 2011 at St. Vincent
de Paul Catholic Church in Rogers with The Very Rev. Msgr. David LeSieur officiating.
Graveside Services will be at 1:00PM, Tuesday, August 23, 2011 at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in
Kansas City, Missouri.
