William Larry Rakes

William “Larry” Rakes, 65, of Garfield, Arkansas passed away Monday, August 22, 2011 at
Circle of Life in Springdale, Arkansas after a courageous, six month battle with cancer.  He
was born on July 20, 1946 in Bentonville, Arkansas to Joseph Edgar Rakes and Mary Lou
Asbury Rakes.   
He attended Bentonville High School, Class of 1964.  He served nine years in the National
Guard, and served in the United States Navy as a Petty Officer 1st Class aboard the USS
Hepburn.  He was a mail carrier for the Rogers Post Office and had just received his 35 Year
Service Award from the U. S. Postal Service.  
He enjoyed roping, trap shooting, fly-fishing, hunting, and was the World Series White Tail
Trophy Champ in 1991.
He attended New Home Church in Bentonville.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by one son, John David Rakes of Fayetteville; one daughter, Kelli Collins of
Fayetteville; two brothers, Richard (Dick) Rakes and wife Sue of Rogers, Robert Rakes and
wife Terri of Rogers; one sister, Linda Davis and husband D. A. of Springdale; one aunt, Betty
Turney of Garfield; three grandchildren, Hillary Easley, Cody Collins, Isabel Collins of
Fayetteville; three nephews, three nieces, ten great nephews, and four great nieces; and several
cousins.   
A visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00PM, Wednesday, August 24, 2011 at Stockdale
Funeral Services in Rogers.
Funeral Services will be at 10:00AM, Thursday, August 25, 2011 at Stockdale Funeral Chapel
in Rogers, with Randy Featherston officiating.  Burial will be at a later date in Hart Cemetery in
Bentonville.
