Larry D. “Mike” Porter, 67, died April 29, 2010 at Circle of Life Hospice in Springdale. He
was born July 20, 1942 in Salina, Kansas to Jake Porter and Ruby McLane Porter.
He moved to Wichita at 5 years of age where he was raised. He was a union trained Master
Plumber. He met and married Linda Vaughn and had two children, Nick and Tamara. They
moved to Denver, CO from Wichita where they stayed a few months then moved to Rogers,
AR where they made their home in 1971.
Mike owned Porter Plumbing, and in 1978 he and Linda built New Hope Mini Storage, which
they managed until selling it in 1996. They also built and remodeled several homes in the area.
Mike traveled doing Wal-Mart plumbing remodeling jobs for several years then returned to his
own plumbing business in Rogers, on a reduced schedule so he could do more fishing. He
was a member of Beaver Lake Bass Club, the Lowell Bass Club and the Arkansas Redfish
Masters, a club he and his fishing buddies created especially for fishing in Louisiana.
He was a member of Oakley United Methodist Church.
Mike was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Billie and father-in-law Joe Vaughn.
Survivors include his wife Linda “Vaughn” Porter of the home, one son Nicholas Porter of
Mountain Home, one daughter Tammy “Porter” Hunter and husband Stewart of Frisco, TX;
two grandchildren Beau and Madison Hunter of Frisco, TX; mother-in-law Emma Lou Vaughn
Combs of Rogers, AR ; two nieces and many dear friends.
Funeral Services will be at 11:00AM Monday, May 3, 2010 at Central United Methodist Church
in Rogers with the Rev. Brian Timmons and the Rev. Jim Keith officiating. Burial will be at 3:
00PM at Old Alabam Cemetery near Huntsville, Arkansas.
Visitation will be from 4:00pm to 6:00PM Sunday May 2, 2010 at Stockdale Funeral Services in
Rogers.
