Harold (Bill) Nolan, Jr.

Harold William Nolan, Jr. (Bill) was born on February 10, 1934, in Santa Maria
California, the only child of Harold William Nolan, Sr. and Lucille Muscio Nolan. He grew
up and graduated high school in Santa Maria. Bill joined the service, where he learned to
fly fixed wing aircraft, and served his Country honorably. His bravery during the Vietnam
War earned him the Air Medal, a Bronze Star, and numerous other medal citations and
commendations. He retired with honors from the U. S Army as a Chief Warrant Officer
with 21 years.
Upon retiring from the army, he lived in Santa Maria, CA, Hawthorne, NV, Riverside,
CA, and finally retiring and settling in Rogers, AR in 1993. For several years, Bill and
Barbara, along with Barbara’s Sister, and husband, operated the War Eagle Cavern. Bill
loved giving the guided tours, especially to the local school children on field trips. Bill was
also a member of the Piney Point Volunteer Fire Department, serving as the training
officer. Bill never met a stranger, and was known for helping anyone he came in contact
with. He was very close to his family.
Bill, at the age of 77, passed away on Tuesday, July 12, 2011 at St. Johns in Springfield,
Missouri due to complications of a stroke suffered on July 2, 2011.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Barbara Ann Nolan on January 1, 2011
He is survived by three sons, Derick Nolan and wife Becky of Rogers, Paul Nolan and
wife Cindy of Galena, Kansas, Kenneth Nolan and wife Rhonda of Bentonville; six
grandchildren, Angela, Tabbatha, Joshua, Jessica, Katelynn, Samantha and two great
grandchildren, Cayden and Harley.
Services will be at 11:00 AM on Friday, 22nd of July, 2011 at the Fayetteville National
Cemetery with full military honors provided by the American Legion Post#100.
