Winifred Irene Largent

Winifred “Irene” Largent, known to her great-grandchildren as GiGi, 91, of Bentonville, joined
our Lord and Savior on Wednesday, July 27, 2011.  She was born on May 23, 1920 in Joplin,
Missouri to Thomas H. Leib and Anna Goodpaster Leib.
She moved to Bentonville in 1971 after working many years at Gateway Promotions in St.
Louis, MO.  She also worked at the Home Office for Walmart Stores, Inc. and later served as
the Secretary of First Christian Church in Bentonville.  
Irene was an active church member all of her life having started teaching Sunday school as a
teenager and singing in the choir.  She retired from teaching at age 80, but continued singing in
the choir prior to her 91st birthday.
Irene was gracious, gentle, caring and had a loving spirit.  She loved being a mother and
nurtured her grandchildren and great grandchildren.  She was a shining example of a Godly
Christian woman.  Well-done, good and faithful servant.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 38 years, William Largent, who passed in
1978; her parents and one brother Thomas Lee Leib.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Sandy and Walter Pettigrew of Bentonville; a
sister, Joann Leib of Joplin, Missouri; a grandson, Yancey and his wife Wednesday Pettigrew,
of Bella Vista; a granddaughter, Alisha Pettigrew Gourley and husband Stephen of Bentonville;
four great grandchildren:  Lacey, Jaxon, Keeley and Penelope Irene; one niece and two
nephews.
Visitation will be held from 5 pm until 7 pm, on Sunday, July 31 at Stockdale Funeral Services
in Rogers.
Funeral services will be held at 10 am, Monday, August 1, 2011 in the sanctuary of First
Christian Church in Bentonville with Rev. Don Morrow officiating.  Graveside service will be
held at 2:00 pm, at Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery (415 N. St. Louis) in Joplin, MO
Memorials, in lieu of flowers, may be made to First Christian Church Choir, 807 SE 14th
Street, Bentonville, AR 72712.
