Clifford Alexander Havner

Clifford Havner, 99, of Bentonville, AR, passed away Wednesday,
October 19, 2011 at Circle of Life Legacy Village in Bentonville.  He was
born November 2, 1911 in Hopkins, Missouri to Samuel and Lora Stringer
Havner.
He and his father moved to Wyoming when he was nine after the death of
his mother and brother from a throat infection. Cliff was raised on ranches
in Wyoming where he worked, went to school in Cheyenne, and rode in
rodeos. He also picked up an eighteen year old school teacher at the train
depot to take her to the country school for her first job. After many years
of dating they were married!
Clifford volunteered for the Army and fought in both the Japanese and
European theaters. He was a member of the 10th Mountain Ski troops in
Italy and was awarded the Bronze Star with Oak Leaf Cluster, Purple
Heart, and a battlefield promotion to 2nd Lieutenant.
After the war he returned to Wyoming where he worked for Standard Oil
and raised his family. He moved to Bentonville thirteen years ago after the
death of his wife and enjoyed being involved in family activities. His
favorite task was helping his daughter-in-law with her projects, checking on
schools, and going to any sporting event his beloved granddaughter
participated in.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Mildred, and one brother.
He is survived by son Galen and daughter-in-law, Debi and granddaughter
Alice.
Graveside services will be held at 9:00AM, Saturday, October 22, 2011 at
Highland Memorial Park Cemetery in Casper, Wyoming.
