Travis Harp

Travis Harp, 75 of Bella Vista, died Monday March 1, 2010 at Circle of Life Hospice in
Springdale.
He was born November 1, 1934 in Norman, Arkansas to Arley Harp and Helen Wilson Harp.
Travis graduated from Hot Springs High School, Class of 1953.  In 1954 he married the former
Barbara Crain and moved to California to start a career with General Dynamics.  In 1964,
general Dynamics transferred him to Fort Worth, where he continued his career.  While in Fort
Worth, Travis continued his formal education by completing a B.S. Degree in Business
Management from TCU (Texas Christian University).  He retired after 32 years of faithful
service with General Dynamics.  In 1996, they moved to Bella Vista.
It was in Bella Vista that he became the congregational leader for Village Baptist Mission.  That
mission turned into Village Baptist Church.  He and his wife Barbara were Charter Members.
Travis served as deacon, Director of Sunday School, as well as various other committees.
In August of 2000, Travis was appointed as the Benton County Judge by Governor Mike
Huckabee.  In 2001 he became the county administrator to Judge Gary Black.  He retired from
that position after Judge Black’s term ended.
Travis enjoyed fishing, hunting, golfing; was a member of the Bella Vista Fly Tyers Club, and
was an avid Arkansas Razorback Fan! Of the many joys he experienced his love for his
grandchildren were at the top of the list.  They were the light of his life!

Survivors include his wife of 55 years Barbara Harp of the home; three sons Curt Harp and his
wife Terry of Weare, New Hampshire, Trent Harp and his wife Denise of Ft. Worth, TX,
Ronny Harp and his wife Susan of Rogers; two brothers Doug Harp of Hot Springs, Gary Harp
of Rogers; three sisters Arlene Cevela of Hot Springs, Helen Holley of Gainesville, TX, Sheila
Smith of Hot Springs; 8 grand children Josh Harp of Tyler, TX., Natalie Harp of Rogers, Jake
Harp of Hudson, New Hampshire, Megan Harp of Ft. Worth, Kristin Harp of Rogers, Trevor
Harp, of Rogers, Haley Harp of Ft Worth and Hunter Harp of Ft. Worth.
Funeral services will be 2:00PM Friday March 5, 2010 at the Village Baptist Church with Dr.
Bill Bowen officiating.  Burial will be in Bentonville Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5-7:00PM Thursday March 4, 2010 at Stockdale Funeral Services of
Rogers.
