Jane P. Golden, 91, was born on November 10, 1920 in Okmulgee, OK.
to Harry Delong Preston and Addie (Grammy) Mae Preston. She joined
her Lord in peace, on Friday, December 30, 2011 at Innisfree Skilled
Nursing Center in Rogers, AR, surrounded by her family and friends.
Jane, is survived by her son, Wayne Alan McIntosh of Colorado Springs,
CO and daughter Judy and husband Gary Simpson of Rogers, AR, her
two grandchildren, Jason Simpson of Denver, CO and Jenny and husband
Ian Baker of Rogers, AR., and two great grandsons, Dylan and Benjamin
Baker.
She was preceded in death by her parents Harry and Addie Preston, and
her husbands Floyd McIntosh and Earl Golden.
Jane graduated from Okmulgee High School in 1938 and received a B.S.
degree from the Oklahoma College for Women in Chickasaw, OK in 1942.
In 1946 she married Floyd Melvin McIntosh and they moved to Denver,
CO where they had two children, Wayne and Judy. In 1952 she returned
to Okmulgee with her two children. She worked for William H. Pine for
ten years. In 1962 she married William Earl Golden and became active in
his church, First Presbyterian Church of Okmulgee. For a short time she
was a social worker for DHS but found her passion in 1964 for teaching
Reading, English, and Speech at Oklahoma State Technical School, where
she developed the reading lab. In 1972, Earl died suddenly. Jane returned
to the First United Methodist Church and continued teaching until retiring
in 1983.
Active in AAUW, Delta Kappa Gama Society, and a member of the United
Methodist Women holding local, state, and national positions. She also led
the Easter Seals Telethon for three years in Okmulgee. She was an active
member of First United Methodist Church of Okmulgee and then became a
charter member of First United Methodist Church in Rogers as well as
joining the Willing Workers Sunday School Class and Sarah Circle.
Jane loved her family very much, as she was loved by them. She had a
"Million Dollar Smile", she shared with everyone. She loved music,
painting, quilting, antiquing, playing Uno and dominoes as well as traveling
with friends.
The family wants to thank the staff of FUMC, the Stephen Ministers, and
countless church members that took her communion, befriended her, and
loved her.
Visitation will be Tuesday, January 3rd from 5 to 7:00pm at Stockdale
Funeral Services in Rogers, AR. Funeral services will take place at 10 am,
Wednesday, January 4, at First United Methodist Church in Rogers, AR. It
will be officiated by the Rev. Sandra Wanasek and the Rev. Jaimie
Alexander. Her internment will be in Okmulgee, OK at the Okmulgee City
Cemetery.
Memorials may be offered in lieu of flowers to First United Methodist
Church, 307 West Elm, Rogers, AR, 72756.
I was privileged to have grown up in the FUMC-Okmulgee and to have known Jane
& Mrs. Preston. Both were absolute treasures. My deepest sympathy to your family.
