“A Tribute To Our Father John W. Collis”

John W. Collis 89 of Rogers, died Sunday April 13, 2008, at his home from a lengthy illness.

He was born February 15, 1919 in Criner, Oklahoma to John Collis, and Eva Sample Collis.

John enlisted in the United States Army  July 31, 1940 an went to Ft. Bliss, Texas.  He served in World War II
in the European Theatre and was a Staff Sergeant  in the 68th Combat Infantry Battalion(horse cavalry) under
Gen. George Patton.  John also fought in the Battle of the Bulge.

Among his many commendations were a Bronze Star, three Purple Hearts, Good Conduct Medal, American
Defense Service Medal, and the European African Middle Eastern Service, with 2 bronze stars.

After the war, and in the early 50’s, John started   his own life insurance company, Central States Life Insurance
in Houston, Texas.  In 1963 John and his family moved to Northwest Arkansas where he started Tri-State Land
Development Company.  He was very instrumental in land development and road construction, being built
between 1963 and 1975, in and around Rogers, and the Beaver Lake area.  He retired in the early 70’s due to
health problems.

John’s favorite pastime was camping and RVing with family and friends, and in earlier years loved to ride horses
on trail rides, hunt and fish, and has some great trophies hanging on his wall from those experiences.  He was a
member of the Rogers Elks Lodge; was a Sublime Degree of Master Mason in the Holland Lodge of Texas,
Master Supreme Council, 33rd Degree Mason, and member of the Scottish Rite.  He was a member of the First
Christian Church of Rogers.

John said, “Of my greatest riches, I have a beautiful wife, and five wonderful children”.
Survivors include a son John W. Collis III of Rogers; four daughters Ruth Ann Morrell, and her husband George
of Scenery Hill, Pennsylvania, Rita Collis-Wise, and her husband Tim of Rogers, Karen Rakes and her husband
Dennis of Rogers, Eva White and her husband Rusty, of Rogers; 7 grandchildren G.D. Morrell, and his wife
Julianna, Jeffery Morrell, and his wife Lynne, Matthew Morrell ,  and their families all of Pennsylvania, Christy
Rust, and her husband Woody ,and family all of Shreveport, Louisiana, John Rakes, and Chase Rakes, both of
Rogers, Greg  Wise and his wife  Louna, of Rogers,  Grant Wise, and his wife Ashly, of Rogers, and Brandon
Knox of Rogers, Jaron Collis and wife Tiffany and family of Bentonville,  10 great grandchildren, and a trusted
friend and caregiver Linda Hillis, of Rogers.

John was preceded in death by his wife of 44 years Wanda Collis in 1991, as well as his parents, and 4 sisters.

Funeral services will be 4:00PM Wednesday April 16, 2008 at the First Christian Church of Rogers with Dr.
Bob Schomp officiating.  Entombment will be in the mausoleum at Benton County Memorial Park.

Visitation will be 5-7:00PM Tuesday April 15, 2008 at Stockdale Funeral Services of Rogers.

Full military honors will be provided by the American Legion Post #100 of Rogers.
