Doris Newburn Christy of Rogers, AR. died June 20, 2011, just hours before her 95th
birthday. Doris was born June 21, 1916 in Lindsay, Oklahoma to Lawrence and Sarah
Newburn.
Doris moved to Rogers, Arkansas in 1944 where she lived on Monte Ne Rd (currently New
Hope Rd.) with her husband, Royce and their three children, Chester, Dell and Sara Lou. She
has been active over the years at First Baptist Church, Rogers, the Benton County Home
Demonstration Extension Club, and the local order of Eastern Star. Doris was known as a
“quilter” and has made many quilts. She loved to do sewing projects of all kinds and gave her
creations and quilts away to family members, friends and fellow church members.
Doris graduated from Bay City High School in 1936. She became a hairdresser and worked as
such for many years. She is preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Royce Altus
Christy of Rogers, a long term employee of Rogers Land Company and her son, Dr. Chester
Christy of Dallas, TX.
Doris “ Nana” is survived by two daughters and sons in law, Dell Christy Tyson and Alan
Tyson, Sara Lou Christy Manning and Mike Manning: eight grand children, Cecilia Christy
Fryar, Chris and Mike McDaniel, Deborah and Paul Tyson, Samuel Means, Doug Christy and
Amy Christy Thompson; twenty-two great grand children, Kate, Chase, Finley and Owen
Tyson, Nathan Tyson Olmstead and Anna Christy Eiring, Jordan, Caleb, and Joshua McDaniel,
Christine ,Cooper and Conner Fryar, Hannah, Josiah, Samuel, Adelina and Hayden Means,
Tristen, Curtis, Clara, and Adelina Thompson, David McDaniel, and two step great- grand
children, Skye and Mathew Craig. Doris had one great-great-grandchild, Lily Kate.
Visitation will be from 6-8pm, Thursday evening, June 23, 2011 at Stockdale Funeral Services
at 2898 West Walnut Street in Rogers.
The Graveside service will be held at 10:00am, Friday, Morning, June 24, 2011 at Benton
County Memorial Park in Rogers.
A Memorial Service will be held July 1, 2011, Friday, 10:00am, at Whitney Mountain Chapel in
Garfield, AR. located near the Lake Cabin in which Doris and Royce lived for 20 years.
Pastors Alan Tyson and Mike McDaniel will be officiating for both services.
