Jane Arend, 81, of Bentonville, Arkansas died Friday, July 2, 2010 at her residence in
Bentonville.  She was born November 2, 1928 in Vinton, Louisiana to Archie Courmier and
Azema Broussard Courmier.  
Jane Arend was a wonderful wife, mother, and community leader.  She was a courageous
fighter.  Jane Arend will leave everyone with very fond memories of her contagious spirit.  Jane
was an early “ambassador” who helped promote Bentonville to the wives and families who
were coaxed to a sleepy town to believe in the Walmart dream.  She was a leadership member
in the Northwest Arkansas Symphony Guild, active in the Bentonville Garden Club, a
Bentonville Public Schools volunteer, tutoring young children in Math and Reading. She loved
the Library’s learn a bunch brown bag lunch program, was involved in the Peel House original
restoration, the Downtown Bentonville renovation projects and believer in quality art
opportunities for the children in the Bentonville schools which included the funds to help build
the Arend Art Center at BHS.  
She was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers and one sister.
Jane is survived by her husband of 59 years, Ferold Arend; one daughter, Debi Havner and
husband Galen of Bentonville; three sons Curtis Arend and wife
Theresa of Rogers, Scott Arend of Rogers, Mike Arend and wife Wednesday of Garfield; three
grandchildren, Alice Jane Havner, William Henry Arend, Cineca Spring Newburn; and one great
grandchild Lennon Newburn.
Private services will be held.
Memorials may be made in honor of Jane Arend to Circle of Life Hospice, 901 Jones Road,
Springdale, Arkansas or to the Bentonville Public School Foundation, 500 Tiger Blvd.,
Bentonville, Arkansas 72712.
